The Rules of Blackjack

In playing the game of blackjack the object is easy: a player competes against the dealer to attain a hand totaling 21 as closely as possible without the twenty one being actually obtained. Eleven or one is the value of an ace, according to the player’s requirement. Ten points are the value of king, queen, jack – the face cards, and the number ten. For instance, a total of 13 are that of a king of hearts and a three of hearts. For playing blackjack, all the other number cards keep their actual number value. Thus 14 is the total of the seven of diamonds and the seven of spades. In blackjack the suit is not relevant. By adding up the cards’ values the player’s total score is calculated.

A hand not holding an ace is considered as a hard hand in blackjack, or when the unit one is calculated for the ace. A soft hand is one where the ace is eleven.

Seven players and the dealer play at a specially arranged table in blackjack. Situated behind the table in a special semicircular shape is the dealer’s position. His task is to deal the cards and receive wagers from each player and converting into playing chips the received money. There is a minimum and maximum bet at each blackjack table in a casino which prior to joining in the game you should note.

The participant is prepared to place his wager on the game the moment he or she has received the chips from the dealer. You do this by putting the chips in the betting square on the table in front of the dealer. Up to two packs, the dealer puts the shuffled cards in box or a shoe. A selected temporary player cuts the shuffled cards by putting a colored card in the pack at any position he desired the dealer to cut them.

In regard to blackjack it’s useful at this stage to consider several house rules. House rules are different for each casino; however when a dealer holds a total hand of seventeen or more he has to hold. On the assumption he totals sixteen or under then another card must be drawn by him.

The singular method to triumph immediately is by having blackjack, namely, to obtain a twenty one total with the first card dealt to you. Quite a few casinos offer bonuses to participants who are sufficiently lucky to triumph in this manner at once. A three to two payout is the general rule.

The first card is burnt or cast away by the dealer when dealing. Prior to dealing each player a hand the dealer has to make sure now that all participants have finalized the bet placements. The player who is seated directly to the dealer’s left is the first one to be dealt cards. The two dealt cards are faced down for the player. After having dealt two cards to each player, the dealer deals a faced up first card and a faced down second card.

The player can stand on the assumption that he or she totals near to twenty one. However, if he is not close he can request a hit or third card from the dealer. When the third card totals above 21 then the player is bust and the game for him is terminated. The player wins if his total is nearer to 21 than the dealer’s. If this is not so he has lost the game. On the assumption the dealer has not gone bust then he pays out the winners after taking the losers’ chips.

A tie takes place when the player and the dealer are dealt a blackjack hand – a natural. In this case the player is not paid at once. To protect himself, the player, in such instances, can be paid an insurance bet. This means, the insurance bet, that the player bets half of his original bet once more. This is not a popular bet in general, for the insurance goes against the dealer to obtain a blackjack hand, as the wager is lost if a blackjack hand is not obtained by the dealer. If a blackjack hand is obtained by the dealer then the original bet is lost and insurance bet of the player is paid out at two to one.

If the player senses that the game is going his or her way then he can always expand his wager. He does this by doubling down, namely, he makes a second bet where the wager sum is identical to the original one. Only after examining both his cards can a player double down. However, the player is obliged to draw another card in return for doubling down.

Doubling down is indicated by the player to the dealer by placing a second wager equal in sum to the original wager in the facing circle. The dealer then gives the player an additional card. Assuming the player wins then he gets equal money for the two bets, thus doubling his total winning sum. When a tie results, there is no payout and both wagers are restored to the player.

An additional method by which the player can expand his wager is by splitting. Here the player is dealt a pair of cards, let’s say a two of diamonds and two of clubs, meaning that the player is allowed to split his cards and in fact play two blackjack hands. Until the player busts, the dealer will deal card to the player’s first hand and to the second after this. Each hand is considered separately, while all the rules of blackjack apply equally to each hand, although each hand is special although the same player holds both hands. As before, the player’s second wager on the split hand has to be of the same value to the original wager and set on the blackjack table next to it.

In order to assist the organized procedure of the blackjack game a number of specific symbols and expressions are employed. Also due to securing the environment of these prioritized games like blackjack no one is allowed to communicate or mediate between the players and the dealer. In order to cope in these circumstances the following indications have been agreed to in order to assist participants in the manner of play they are interested in pursuing. On the assumption a player wants to stand then he or she waves the palm of his hand in the table’s direction. On scratching the table with a finger the intention of the player is that he wants to receive another card or to hit.
